A Message from Carey

Thanks to the commitment of our colleagues and member companies, the 2024 election cycle was record-breaking for APCIA’s Political Engagement (PE) team.
Insuring America PAC raised and disbursed more than ever before. We exceeded our election cycle fundraising goal, raising $1.62 million, or 17% more than what we raised last cycle. With these resources, the PAC disbursed $1.57 million, supporting 466 candidates nationwide, reinforcing the strength of our industry.
We also had a strong voice on public policy. APCIA’s Voice of America’s Insurers grassroots program executed 66 campaigns in 23 states, empowering almost 54,000 advocates and sending over 110,000 letters on issues that impact our industry. Thanks to industry advocates we finished last cycle’s advocacy efforts with an 89% success rate across all our grassroots campaigns.
Building on our Momentum
As we close the books on Q1 of the new election cycle, we know the number of policymakers we need to engage and the breadth of issues we must be prepared to address are greater than ever. We will need to redouble our efforts to build an even stronger team of industry champions ready to protect our industry.
The Power of Engagement Starts with YOU!
Our success is only possible because of YOU – our member companies, grassroots advocates, and PAC supporters. By engaging with Voice of America’s Insurers grassroots program and learning more about Insuring America PAC — you help protect our industry and, most importantly, the policyholders we serve.
Let’s continue to work together. Please reach out to me or anyone on the PE team to learn more about ways you can play a vital role in shaping the future of our industry.

Political Engagement Team Events Series
Opportunities for APCIA Members to Join in our Industry’s Advocacy Efforts
With attention on property casualty industry issues both in Washington, DC and in statehouses across the country increasing, the need for strong political engagement from APCIA members is as important as ever. To help facilitate this engagement, the PE team hosts events throughout the year, providing opportunities for APCIA members to network, have fun, and learn about the ways their companies and employees can support our industry’s advocacy efforts.
The PE team hosted several events to close-out and kick-off the 2024 and 2026 election cycles respectively. As part of APCIA’s Advocacy Planning Conference, which took place the day after the 2024 elections in Nashville, TN, the PE team hosted a whiskey tasting reception complete with a photobooth sponsored by Insuring America PAC. The event was an opportunity for APCIA members to decompress from a busy election cycle before a week of advocacy planning sessions preparing for an even busier 2026 election cycle.
In February, the PE team held a reception of swashbuckling and socializing during the “Seas” the Day reception, kicking off the Emerging Leaders Conference in Tampa, FL. During the Executive Roundtable meeting in Naples, FL, the PE team also hosted the second Putting, Pints, and Politics event on the world-class Tiburon Golf Club putting green.

THE TIME FOR ADVOCACY IS NOW. Learn about Political Engagement’s efforts to educate elected officials on issues critical to our industry.
With your continued participation we will be ready for the legislative battles ahead of us, ensuring our industry remains protected. Be on the lookout for future PE team hosted events!
2025 Grassroots Campaigns
We’re just a few months into 2025, and it has already been a busy legislative session for Voice of America’s Insurers, with several grassroots campaigns across the country and a few wins under our belt already. Thanks to the ongoing support of APCIA members like you, Voice of America’s Insurers is already helping APCIA have a positive impact on property casualty industry priorities.
In New Mexico, lawmakers considered HB 80, a harmful bill that would have banned the use of credit information in auto insurance pricing, likely leading to higher rates. Thanks to a strong advocacy campaign—including 6,850 letters to legislators from APCIA members and consumers, 1,120 phone calls to legislators from consumers, and targeted social media ads—HB 80 was tabled and won’t be considered again this session.
In Utah, HB 164 was defeated thanks to voices like yours! The bill would have removed the requirement for drivers turning left at an intersection to yield to oncoming traffic that fails to stop at a stop sign or red light. If passed, this bill could have led to an increase in auto crashes, made Utah roads less safe, and driven up auto insurance rates statewide. Advocacy efforts, including 90 calls to legislators from concerned consumers, helped defeat the bill.
Thank you to everyone who has taken action to help support Voice of America’s Insurers’ grassroots efforts this year. We still have several campaigns in progress nationwide, including in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Oregon, South Carolina, and Texas. Be sure to check out our latest alerts and take action if there’s an issue in your state that needs your voice.

Insuring America PAC 2024 Election Cycle Wrap Up & 2025 Look Ahead

Insuring America PAC closed out another record-breaking election cycle, raising and disbursing more dollars than ever before. With more than $1.62 million raised, the PAC surpassed 114% of the $1,425,000 cycle fundraising goal. These increased resources allowed the PAC to continue its engagement efforts to favorably impact election outcomes during an election cycle that saw increased attention on the property casualty industry.
Insuring America PAC 2024 Cycle Highlights
- 1,264 PAC donors (19% more donors than 2022 election cycle).
- 17% more raised than 2022 election cycle.
- $1.26 million disbursed (20% increase over 2022 election cycle).
- 245 federal candidates supported (20% increase over 2022 election cycle).
- 466 state and federal candidates supported.
- 91% of supported state and federal candidates won their election.
In total, APCIA’s state PACs and Insuring America PAC disbursed over $4.1 million to federal and state candidates. These disbursements, combined with more than $2.3 million raised through APCIA hosted federal and state candidate direct giving events, resulted in a total political impact of $6.47 million during the 2024 election cycle. This represents a 17% increase over last election cycle and the largest total impact in APCIA history. With the 2024 election cycle in the rear-view mirror, the Insuring America PAC team remains focused on maintaining the momentum in 2025 and has already made a decisive impact in supporting industry champions. As of March 15, the PAC has disbursed over 17% of its incumbent budget. Through hosting candidate fundraising events, these funds were leveraged to raise over $140,000 for key federal legislators and over $200,000 in a blockbuster state candidate event for Florida Senate President Ben Albritton, Leader Jim Boyd, and Senator Tom Leek. APCIA Board of Directors set Cycle Fundraising Goal at $1.75 million.
New Insuring America PAC Board Chair John Marchioni, Selective Insurance Group, Inc., stressed to the APCIA Board of Directors during the February board meeting, the need to “set a bold and ambitious [PAC] cycle fundraising goal as the number of policymakers we need to engage and the breadth of issues we must be prepared to address are expanding.” The board approved a new cycle fundraising goal of $1.75 million, representing a 22% increase over the 2024 goal. APCIA mainstay issues like flood insurance reauthorization, protecting risk-based pricing, and auto insurance cost drivers have historically obliged Insuring America PAC to focus on supporting legislators on both the House Financial Services and the Senate Banking Committees. While these committees will continue to be a high priority, with new and complex policy challenges like third-party litigation financing (TPLF), resilience and mitigation, artificial intelligence, and tax reform, resources will also go toward supporting more members serving on committees like the Transportation and Infrastructure, Appropriations, Judiciary and the tax-writing committees. Chair Marchioni concluded that “our PAC is a critical tool in our advocacy strategy, and the [fundraising goal] increase reflects both the growing demands on our advocacy efforts and the opportunities we have to strengthen our impact.”
