About Government Relations

Through education, advocacy, and an active Political Action Committee, ERIE’s Government Relations area works to promote a positive regulatory environment for our company, industry, and policyholders. Government Relations monitors and impacts governmental developments affecting ERIE and the insurance industry and simultaneously keeps ERIE’s business operations aware of developing concerns and issues that may need to be addressed.

Have questions about ERIE Action Network or Government Relations?

Government Relations uses four primary strategies to achieve their objectives:

  1. Education – Educating ERIE employees and agents on how political issues impact the heavily regulated insurance industry.
  2. Advocacy – Monitoring state and federal legislative and regulatory activity, to stay up to date on pending changes in our marketing territories. Government Relations works proactively to impact such changes by working with legislators, regulators, and, most frequently, through industry trade associations.
  3. Information – Gathering and sharing information, both internally and externally, to prioritize an agenda. This includes notifying business units of pending legislative or regulatory changes, often providing the businesses an opportunity to provide input on the laws and regulations and informing business units of final laws and regulations.
  4. Political Action Committees – ERIE’s PACs are focused on supporting and ultimately electing leaders who embrace the importance of a regulatory environment that is beneficial to both businesses and consumers.
