Catastrophe Insurance Challenges

Addressing challenges with catastrophe insurance is critical to protecting consumers when disaster strikes.

When the unexpected happens, property casualty insurers work to deliver on their promises to policyholders. Whether natural or man-made, catastrophe insurance helps consumers and businesses recover and rebuild after a range of disasters—including earthquakes, wildfires, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, and severe winter storms.

There are a number of factors to consider when addressing the challenges of catastrophe insurance, including the government’s role in providing relief, private market development, risk mitigation, resilience, and sustainability. APCIA focuses on providing a full range of catastrophe risk coverage and mitigation services for consumers and businesses.

A major focus of these efforts includes supporting the Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission’s recommendations to address the wildfire system holistically, with a goal of creating communities and landscapes that are resilient to wildfire as a natural and integral part of the nation’s future.

We will continue to advocate for smart policy reforms that improve our nation’s response to natural and man-made disasters, protecting our communities and reducing the burden on taxpayers nationwide.
